The Honest Catch #2: “Ceramic Non-Stick” Wears Out

The sol-gel “ceramic” coating story is almost the opposite: the chemistry is reassuring, but the lifespan is not. These coatings are free of PTFE, PFOA, and other PFAS, and are considered food-safe by regulators, with no known toxicity from worn coating particles [4]. If your reason for leaving traditional non-stick is the PFAS / “forever chemicals” concern, sol-gel ceramic does sidestep it.

  2. Be cautious with imported, handmade, antique, and brightly decorated pieces — enjoy them for display, and avoid acidic food/drink in them unless verified lead-safe [1][3].
