About The Peer Review
If you’re like me, you’ve spent too much time standing in the aisle, phone out, trying to decode an ingredient list, googling “does deodorant cause cancer?” or being eight tabs deep into an anxiety-provoking search at 11pm. If all the scary headlines have brought you on the verge of an existential crisis or thinking that you need to live on a self-sustained farm somewhere — then you’re in the right place. The Peer Review exists because making health-conscious everyday decisions for yourself and your family shouldn’t feel so hard or leave you with more anxiety.
Why We Started The Peer Review
Somewhere between fear-based headlines and marketing that can sell empty claims, it’s genuinely difficult to know what to believe. The burden is placed on us, the consumers, to do all the hard work, because companies don’t show theirs. Being informed shouldn’t feel like a second job and anxiety in disguise. As a woman, you already carry a higher mental load, we’re here to help remove some of that load.
Our Method
The Peer Review does the research so you don’t have to stay up doing it yourself. Every review follows the same process:
- Identify what’s worth looking into
- Investigate the research and ingredients behind it
- Inform you in plain language — we break it down, give you the facts, and explain the why
- Improve your choices with confidence
Our goal is to help you feel confident in the decisions you make for your body, your health, and your family — so you can close the million tabs and get back to your life.
Who’s Behind The Peer Review
Hi, I’m Georden, the person behind The Peer Review. This blog came from a simple desire: to make healthy choices for myself and my family. That meant many late nights of extensive research, digging into the science and data behind ingredients and headline claims, trying to find some grounding in all the noise.
Years of graduate-level research taught me how to evaluate claims critically using the scientific method. It’s easy to fall into fear-based claims and marketing that only present one part of the picture. I feel the non-toxic lifestyle space can be improved with more scientific rigor and critical evaluation of the evidence vs. creating fear, skepticism, and all or nothing generalizations.
Making decisions where science offers clarity shouldn’t be hard for everyday consumers. We shouldn’t have to worry about what we’re putting on our faces, on our bodies, and in our homes. To be clear, The Peer Review isn’t professional or medical advice — please talk to your health care provider about any health concerns.
Based in Canada, we focus on products and brands available to Canadian shoppers, so the research you read here actually applies to what’s on your shelf. The Peer Review is built on a simple belief: people deserve clear, honest, and science-backed information to make the best decisions for their lives. That’s the standard behind every review on this site.
Our Standards
No alarmist headlines designed to keep you scrolling and worrying. And no pretending that a company’s bottom line and your health outcomes are always the same priority — because they’re often not, and you deserve someone willing to say so. Just calm, credible information, because peace of mind shouldn’t require a graduate degree.
Every review is independently researched. Read our full disclosure policy for how we handle affiliate relationships.
